The Story

Adas Israel was founded by a group that sought a more traditional worship experience than was available at Washington Hebrew Congregation. President Ulysses S. Grant attended the cornerstone laying of the original synagogue in 1876. The congregation moved to its current Cleveland Park location in 1951 and has grown to become the largest Conservative synagogue in the region.
