The Story

Fort Reno was built in 1861 as part of the ring of fortifications protecting Washington during the Civil War. Named after Major General Jesse L. Reno, who died at the Battle of South Mountain in 1862, the fort saw action during Early's Raid in 1864. Today the park is beloved for its summer concert series, which has showcased emerging bands since 1968, and its athletic fields.
